Interim Federal Health (IFH) and Syrian Refugees

London’s Dr. Bhooma Bhayana writes with an important note about the Federal Government’s “Interim Federal Health Program” (IFH):

“…although privately sponsored refugees will get OHIP right away, they may not get IFH and would need to apply for it.

IFH would cover medications, prosthesis for amputees, limited dental and vision coverage.

Please let your sponsoring partners know this as there can be a delay in this application and many people will need meds etc. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/outside/summary-ifhp.asp

Jane Phillpott [the new Minister responsible] has promised a reinstatement of IFH from the cuts done under the Conservatives but it is not certain how long that might take.”
